SCIENCE:
contents of the theme no. 9 (book of Science): The Population of Spain

the Spanish population: 44 million inhabitants in 2006
population density: 89 inhabitants/km2
the active population in 2007: 20 million people (2 million unemployed)
the tree sectors of the Spanish economy:
  1. the primary sector: 5% of the active population (1 million people): agriculture (grain, grapes, olives, vegetables and fruit), livestock farming (cows, pigs, sheep and poultry), fishing (traditional fishing and industrial fishing) and mining.
  2. the secondary sector: 33% of the active population (6 million).Manufacturing (automobile, chemical, telecommunications, textile and food) and construction (buildings, highways, railways, homes, stadiums, schools)
  3. the service sector: 58% of the active population (12 million). tourism, trade and transport.
Spanish borders:
  • north: France, Andorra and the Bay of Biscay
  • south: the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean
  • east: the Mediterranean Sea
  • west: the Atlantic Ocean and Portugal
The Autonomous Communities: study all the Autonomous Communities in Spain and the two Autonomous cities (Ceuta and Melilla) including the capital city of any of them.
